		<description>As a former Marine, one has to understand the culture of the Military to know why it is significant that these signs were overlooked. When President Clinton was elected and was pushing for &quot;Don&#039;t Ask Don&#039;t Tell&quot;, we were forced to attend sensitivity classes in which we were instructed not to refer to the President as anything other than &quot;Mr. President, Commander in Chief, or The Honorable Mr. Clinton&quot; due to the insulting names he was being called.

After the policy was enacted we had to attend new classes to deal with the anti gay rhetoric that was being openly used.

It is important to understand that the Military is not like civilian society. In this environment, things like that should be noted and dealt with. Furthermore, he was an officer. This should have made it even more urgent.

Am I saying anyone should have known what he was about to do? No. Should action have been taken simply on the basis of what he was saying? Absolutely.
